Juliet Sharon Alcalay began playing the piano at age 1 and taking lessons at age 3; she has studied with Crystal Rivette, Deborah Ann Custer, Terri Ellis and Kaju Lee. She shared third prize in the 5-7 year old category of the Marker and Pioneer-International Music Competition at age 5 and the Pacific Stars International Competition at age 6 in the summer of 2022. She was awarded first prize for the Free Choice category and second prize in the 20th Century/Contemporary category for the 2016 age group in the Standard Division of the Concours International de Musique Online competition in December 2022. In 2023 she placed second in the 3rd Franz Liszt Center International Piano Competition, the Odin International Music Online Competition, and the Marker and Pioneer International Music Competition. Her ambition is to one day play Beethoven’s “Hammerklavier Sonata” like her father, pianist and composer Eugene Alcalay (1966-2019), who continues to inspire her.
