Junwoo Colin Kim

Junwoo Kim is a young clarinetist that has won prizes in many different competitions. Starting from his 4th grade year, he was captivated by the differing tones and musicality of professional musicians and knew clarinet playing would be more than a hobby.

Through instruction from Emily Coile, he was able to place first in both solo and ensemble playing in the Washington Youth Music Festival and perform as principal in the Churchill 9th Grade Band. Junwoo has also won prizes in numerous competitions including the YMIC International Competition and Metropolitan Classical Music Festival. In the MMEA area, Junwoo has been a part of the selective All County and All State Honors Band since 7th grade and became assistant principal in the All County Junior Band during his 9th grade year. Junwoo has been a part of the Potomac Valley Youth Orchestra for years where he has played as assistant principal in the Concert Band, principal in the Symphony Orchestra, and assistant principal in his first year of Philharmonia.

Trying to find a way to contribute to COVID-19 relief, Junwoo has created the Metropolitan Youth Music Foundation where student musicians can record themselves playing classical or seasonal pieces! He then sends these videos to nursing homes for the elderly to enjoy. On the MYMF Youtube Channel, he has currently posted 30 videos and has 4 playlists with many more in the works!
