Laura Stanell is 18 years old and lives in Pennsylvania. She has studied two and a half years with Carol Cavey-Miles and is a piano student of Chad Bowles at Peabody Prep.
Laura won Honorable Mention in Youth Singing at the Camille Coloratura Awards in October 2019, 17-24 age category. She was a finalist and won second place in the Senior Voice Division at the National MTNA National Convention in Spokane, Washington in March, 2019. Laura performed in the 2019 and 2018 Young Classical Artists competition winner’s recital at Bloomsburg University, also a broadcast recital on WVIA radio. She also was selected to perform in the Peabody Prep Honors Recital, April 2019. She was the winner of the Asian American Music Society International Opera Competition in Bethesda Maryland, fall, 2018. Laura was a finalist and awarded the Best Sophomore prize in the Schmidt Vocal Competition in New York City, November, 2018. Laura placed first in the NATS Maryland/DC Lower High School Division and performed in the Gala recital. Laura was a winner of the Spring Honor’s Competition and performed in the Peabody Prep Fran G. Zarubick Honors Recital, 2018. Laura performed at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia in the Young Classical Virtuosos of Tomorrow winner’s recital. Laura was selected and participated in the Curtis Summerfest Mikael Eliasen Voice Program of 2019, and 2018. She also participated in the 2019 Russian Opera Workshop at AVA in Philadelphia. She was selected and participated in the High School Opera Singers Intensive at the Metropolitan Opera Guild in February, 2019. Laura plays violin in the school orchestra, and in her free time enjoys hiking, kayaking, swimming, camping, traveling, and playing with her five cats.
