Lucas Tam

Lucas Tam has been taking piano lessons since the age of six studying under Steinway Artist Dr. Yelena Balabanova. He’s passionate about learning, playing, performing and sharing the beauty of music with others. Lucas’s latest performances have earned him the Joan Brown piano scholarship, the largest in WA, Anna Rollins Piano scholarship, Helen Crowe scholarship and two invitations to attend the prestigious Seattle Piano Institute at the University of Washington. Lucas performed the second and third movements of Chopin’s Concerto in E Minor with the Bellevue Symphony string quintet as a prize winner in the Northwest Chopin Festival. In November 2021, Lucas won the SCMTA Concerto competition. He was selected as a finalist for two consecutive years (2020 and 2021) at the Seattle Symphony Concerto Competition. He has also won Best of Festival from the Time Era Festival twice (2020 and 2021), gold medals from the Russian Chamber Music Competition (2020), Chopin NW Piano Competition (2019), Special Beethoven Prize from Pacific NW Piano Competition (2020), and First Runner-up for the Virtual Steinway Regional Piano Competition (2020), among many others. Internationally, he was awarded medals from the Northern Lights Piano Festival & Competition (2021) and World PTA Singapore International Piano Competition (2020). As a First-Class Honors with Distinction recipient from the Royal Conservatory Music Development program, he loves to share his insights and expertise with fellow piano students to help them successfully pass their RCM piano exams. Besides piano, Lucas enjoys playing tennis and performs various community services throughout the year.
