Marieke de Koker is a South African soprano studying at DePaul University as recipient of the Anne Marie Gerts Memorial endowed scholarship. She is currently singing the role of Fiordiligi in an opera film of Così fan tutte with Supernova Opera, while preparing her debut album “Heimwee”. This summer she studied the Russian roles of Tatyana from Eugene Onegin and Tamara from The Demon with Russian Opera Workshop. In the 2019/2020 season she debuted Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Madame Silberklang in Der Schauspieldirektor, and Eunomia in Cavalli’s L’Egisto. She starred as soloist with Windy City Performing Arts in Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and shared the stage with Nicole Cabell at the opening of the Jarvis Opera Hall. Last Summer Marieke traveled to the Marche region of Italy where she earned her B1 Italian Language certification and performed scenes as Gilda from Rigoletto and Violetta from La Traviata. She also attended the Austrian American Mozart Academy in Salzburg. In 2020 Marieke was a prize winner at the Casa Italia Vocal Scholarship Competition and the Voices of South Africa International Opera Competition, also coming second in the Hal Leonard Vocal Competition. In previous years she was a semi-finalist at the CS Vocal Competition and came second at Wisconsin NATS.
