Matthew is equally passionate about Science, Engineering, Music and Golf. On the music front, he started classical piano lessons at the European School of Music in Atlanta when he was about 7 years old. He enjoys playing the music of classical and modern composers, performing regularly at recitals open to the public at both his music school and high school. Seeking independent review on his playing, he has participated and submitted works each year, for four years (2019-2022), in the National Piano Playing Auditions (Piano Guild). He received a “Superior Plus” grade for 3 out of 4 years and a “Superior” grade for 1 year.
Matthew received the honor to perform in two separate celebrations of the European School of Music’s 30th Anniversary Concert in May 2023; in a piano duo with his brother, Fugue on a Crane Theme by Arensky, and in a chamber music ensemble presentation of Peter and Wolf, where he played the musical themes for both Peter and Wolf. These concerts were open to the public with 100+ people in the audience. At a recent winter recital, he played an orchestral piece from his favorite modern composer, Keith Emerson (Inferno theme – featured in this video). Since this performance, he has been invited by the orchestra leader at his high school to work with the school orchestra in 2024, on a performance of Inferno as a solo pianist.
