Maya Liu, a fourteen-year-old violinist from the USA, began playing the violin at the age of four at the New England Conservatory preparatory school in Boston. She is pursuing her violin studies under the guidance of DUKE Prof. Eric Pritchard in North Carolina.
Maya is currently in the first violin section of the DUKE String School Youth Orchestra. She has been a part of NCCMI and MYCO chamber programs with which she performed several chamber music recitals throughout the state. In addition to performing many solo, chamber and orchestra recitals Maya is the 2021 first place State Winner of the Royalty Competition, 2020 second place winner of the Great Composer Series International competition, 2019 third place winner of the Peter Perret Talent Search competition, 2019 first place Division Winner of the Royalty Competition, and the recipient of the superior rating from the Fayetteville Symphony Solo and Ensemble Festival. Maya also composed her first chamber music piece for three violins at the age of 12.
In her free time Maya who is homeschooled enjoys playing with her dog Lina, her sister and brother, reading, and doing flips on the trampoline.
