Micah Chan, age twelve, is a 7th grader (homeschool) residing with his family in Skokie, Illinois. Micah began playing the piano at age four with Dr. Christina Tio as his mom and teacher. He participates regularly in workshops and conferences, and has performed in public masterclasses with Alan Chow and Tali Morgulis. Micah has also received top prizes at numerous festivals and competitions, including as a gold medalist at Sonata-Sonatina Festivals for consecutive years, and a prizewinner at the Society of American Musician Competition, North Shore Music Teachers Association Competitions and Steinway & Sons Junior Piano Competition. Micah is exuberant and versatile, and considers music making one of his many forms of personal expressions. Besides the piano, Micah also plays the cello, and has been a cellist in String Quartets and Piano Trios. He is also a creative visual artist, a math enthusiast and excels in Science Olympiad.
