
Miya Morton is a rising senior at Hidden Valley High School, Roanoke Valley Governor’s School, and Burton Center for Arts and Technology. She has been studying piano since she was five under Linda Pasquarell, and now studies under Melia Garber. She wrote her first song when she was eight. In 2021, Miya won First Prize and Exceptional Young Talent Special Prize for the Golden Classical Music Award International Competition. Thereafter, she performed in the Winner’s Concert at Carnegie Hall. She also won 3rd Prize at Charleston International Music Competition’s 2023 Romantic Music Competition. She won the 2023 Constituting America “We the Future” Best Song contest for the High School category. Besides playing piano and writing music, Miya also enjoys dancing and singing. She was part of the Concert Choir of Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir for two years and performed with them at Carnegie Hall in 2022. She will be entering her 14th year of dance at Ardell Stone School of Dancing this coming school year. Besides her music education, Miya also likes to use her gifts to volunteer. She has been the accompanist for Sunday service for her church since 2019. She also plays piano and sings for her youth group’s Wednesday night worship. Occasionally, she performs at senior living centers and nursing homes when the opportunity arises.
