I am a Hong Kong born Australian citizen. I started with grade 1 ABRSM when I was 8. Before moving to Sydney, I was half way in grade 3 but later changed to AMEB. I completed my AMEB grade 3 – 7 performance, 8th in progress.
It is always a challenge for me to learn everything because I have language disorder which makes understanding communication and linguistic information hard. I am the kid who always struggle at school no matter how hard I try and need extra time to understand contents.
This also include music such as teacher explain to me how to count properly and understanding Italian musical terms, learning music theory is the hardest of all. It took me almost 10 years to get to grade 6 where I started to understand more efficiently and thought I want to have a career in music.
I am currently a 2nd year music university student and just started AMEB grade 8. It is tough when I see mostly everyone in my university completed grade 8 before they reach high school, I often compare myself to them but I later learned everyone has their own pace of learning. Just do your best, work hard & how much you progress is what matter most.
I am a slow learner but I am happy to be where I am now. I am hoping to get to AMusA (Associate in music, diploma) before I finish my Bachelor of Classical music degree.
