Nathan Wong

Nathan Wong is a junior at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School. He began piano studies at the age of five and shortly thereafter also began taking violin lessons. Upon entering middle school, Nathan shifted his focus solely to piano through the Certificate of Merit program and completed CM Advanced Level with State Honors by age thirteen. As well as being a winner of the MTAC Artists of the Future Competition last year, Nathan won 1st place in the Contemporary category at both the Southwestern Youth Music Festival (SYMF) and California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) district competitions. In addition, Nathan recently placed 2nd in the CAPMT Sonata competition and 2nd in the MTAC Scholarship Audition. In 2022, he won 2nd prize in the SYMF Chopin Etude category. He has also been a semi-finalist for the Spotlight International Piano Competition and placed first in the Glory Int’l Classical Music Competition. Nathanhas attended the Oberlin Piano Festival, developing his craft through masterclasses and training with Carl Cranmer, Robert Shannon, Ernest Barretta, Haewon Song, and Alvin Chow. Nathan is passionate about sharing classical music with the community at large and is currently serving as a student volunteer and Director of Communications of the Music Students’ Service League (MSSL) South Bay Chapter. Nathan is currently studying with Joseph Keel.
