Nathan Zhu

Nathan Zhu is an 16-year-old junior at Saratoga High School, California. He has been studying piano with Ms. Peggy Chen since the age of 6.

Nathan was twice awarded the Panel Honor of Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) and was invited to perform at the MTAC State Convention in 2021 and 2022. He has consistently claimed top prizes in numerous competitions such as the US Open Music Competition (USOMC), Music Legacy Open Competition, US International Music Open Competition, San Francisco International Innovative Competition, the Best Brahms Performance from the Great Composers Competition, Spotlight National Youth Music Competition, and MTAC State Piano Concerto Competition. He also attended the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music Senior Piano music camp in 2021.

Nathan is a member of the non-profit organization Notelove, providing free music lessons to unprivileged children in California, Massachusetts and Texas. He is also a part of MESH, a student-run program at SHS that helps students in middle and elementary school learn music.

Besides piano, Nathan has been playing clarinet for 6 years and currently studies with Doug Zuehlke. He is also the member of the Saratoga Wind Ensemble and the Saratoga Symphony Orchestra at school. Additionally, he has participated in the Santa Clara County Honor Band in 2019, 2020 and 2021 and the Golden State Youth Symphony in 2019.
