Nolan Yuhsiang Tu

Nolan Tu, 16, is a junior at Union High School, Camas, Washington. He currently studies with Dr. Renato Fabbro and has been honored in numerous competitions and appeared in many performances.

His most recent honors include winner for the 2022 Oregon MTNA Senior Piano Division, the third prize in the 2022 National Vancouver Symphony Young Artist Competition, a first prize in the 2021 Bellagrande International Music Competition, first prize in the Washington State Opus Music Competition, alternate for the 2021 Oregon MTNA Senior Piano Division, third prize at the 2021 Washington Outstanding Artist Senior Competition, first prizes at the 2021 Spokane Piano Competition’s Senior Classical, Romantic, and Impressionist/Modern Divisions, gold medal at the 2021 Pacific Northwest Piano Competition, and third prize in the MTNA National Finals after winning the 2021 MTNA Northwest Division Junior Piano Competition. He won both the 2020 and 2019 Oregon MTNA Junior Piano Competition. Other recent honors include first prizes at the 2020 Washington Outstanding Artist Junior Competition, 2020 CCMTA Honors Competition, 2019 OFMC Suzanne Raines Scholarship Competition, and 2019 Cris Tapang Scholarship Competition.

As a performer, Nolan won second prize in the 2021 Central Oregon Symphony Young Artist Competition and performed the 1st movement of Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 22 with the orchestra in May, 2022. In addition to being the gold medalist of the Pacific Northwest Piano Competition, he also performed at the Meydenbauer Center Theatre as the adjudicator’s choice for the Bellevue Symphony concert in February, 2022. He has also performed in various venues including the Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall in June 2019, was selected to perform in a master class for Stanislav Ioudenitch and was also a featured soloist at the 2020 Washington State Music Teachers Association Sate Conference.

Outside of piano, Nolan is a competitive swimmer, participates in the school swim team, enjoys drawing and playing the flute. He also joins multiple clubs, such as Red Cross where he holds a leadership position, because he loves to give back to the community.
