
Born in New York City, Opal Eleonora Thompson started playing piano at age six under the instruction of Dr. Yoojung Kim. As a soloist and chamber musician, she has performed at venues including the Marc A. Scorca Hall at the National Opera America Center, the Ann Goodman Recital Hall at Kaufman Music Center, the Liederkranz Foundation and the Norman S. Benzaquen Hall at the Dimenna Center. She also had a solo recital at Steinway Hall in New York City. Opal has won 3rd place in the American Protege competition and Golden Classical Music awards and has performed at the winner’s recitals at Carnegie Hall. She also won first price at the Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition of Saltzburg and Barcelona.
Opal is currently an 8th grader at New Canaan Country School and enjoy being part of the drama productions as well as singing in the school choir. She is involved in acting and has performed the role of Babette the feather duster in Beauty and the Beast at the Gateway Theatre in Bellport, New York.
Besides playing piano, Opal’s favorite hobbies include reading, swimming, running, volleyball and roller skating. She resides in Stamford, Connecticut with her parents and sister Cecilia.
