Phoebe Wu

Phoebe Wu is a rising junior at UC Berkeley majoring in Economics, minoring in Music, Data Science, and Food Systems. She has been a student of Professor Tingyu Wu since 2018, and is currently studying Violin Performance under the studio of Professor Antoine Van Dongen. Phoebe is a 1st violinist in the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, and was the Assistant Concertmaster in the UC Berkeley Philharmonia Orchestra. In November 2023, Phoebe competed in the UC Berkeley Annual Concerto Competition, and was selected to perform Butterfly Lovers’ Concerto as a soloist in the fall.

Phoebe has been involved in orchestral performance since the age of 9. In 2014, she was recruited by Taipei Philharmonic Youth Ensemble as section leader, and performed in various national and international venues. In 2016, she was selected as a soloist in the Taipei Philharmonic Youth Ensemble Concerto Competition. In 2017, she received 1st-runner-up in the junior division of the Hong Kong International Music Festival Competition. In 2018 and 2021, she had a charity solo recital in Eslite Performance Hall and National Recital Hall (Taipei), respectively, in which the concert revenue was donated to Angel’s Heart Family Social Welfare Foundation. In 2021, she participated in a Youth Musicianship Development Program facilitated by the National Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with Ray Chen, in which they performed and celebrated classical music with children from indigenous communities around Taiwan.

In 2022, Phoebe was accepted into several music schools along with a Dean of Music Scholarship, including Eastman School of Music, Peabody Institute of Music, New England Conservatory etc. In 2024, she was invited to attend California Orchestra Institute as concertmaster and performed in Zipper Hall of Colburn School.
