Preston Liao Xie

My name is Preston Xie. I am from California, United States. I am 15 years old, a sophomore at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon. I started taking violin lessons when I was 8 and became the concert master at 11 in Windermere Ranch Middle School. I am currently in Chamber Orchestra at Dougherty Valley High school. I auditioned and played at the Berkeley Youth Orchestra for 2 years. I was recently accepted by the Senior Symphony at the Golden State Youth Orchestra. I am inspired by Ray Chen, a professional violist, and my role model when it comes to playing as a soloist. I admire his ability of being able to play freely, without constraint. I am also inspired by my teacher Ms Amy Liu, the talented violists from her studio, and my peers in orchestra and symphonies. I started competing in 2022 and won third place in Category Advanced Violin, Romantic, at the US International Open Music Competition. I look forward to entering more competitions and sharpen my violin skills. My other hobbies include coding, boxing, and reading.
