Qiao Tiger Zhang

Qiao “Tiger” Zhang (piano), 16, is from Simi Valley, California. He is a student and scholarship recipient at the Colburn Community School of Performing Arts. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at numerous events, including From the Top’s Daily Joy, Classical Sundays at Six, Space and Sound, Grand Performances, MTAC VOCE Winner’s Recital, Fischoff Preview Concert, and Colburn Honor’s Recital. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Zipper Hall, DeBartolo Hall Notre Dame, UT Austin Butler School of Music, St. James Church, and the California MTAC State Convention. Tiger had his orchestral debut at age 14 with the MTAC Glendale Concerto Orchestra conducted by Jorge Luis Uzcátegui. He is a semifinalist of the Music Center’s Spotlight Awards (2022) and the first-place winner of the Steinway Piano Competition – Southern California Region, Southwestern Youth Music Festival, AFAF International Music Competition, Golden Classical Music International Competition, International PianoTalents Competition Milan, and MTAC Glendale Concerto Competition. In the past two years, Tiger had been a member of the Nth Trio in the Honors Program of the Colburn’s Ed and Mari Edelman Chamber Music Institute. The trio has won many awards including the 50th Fischoff Chamber Music Competition inaugural Horszowski Piano Trio Prize, California State MTAC VOCE First Prize, Finalist of the Coltman Chamber Music Competition, and First Place of the Bellegrande International Music Competition, International Grande Music Competition, Fanny Mendelssohn International Competition, Camerata Artists International Competition, ENKOR International Music Competition, and VIVO International Music Competition. Tiger currently plays in a duo at the Junior Chamber Music. He has taken masterclasses with Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Peter Takacs, Daniel Shapiro, Lucinda Carver, Kelly Perkins, and Geraldine Walther. Outside of music, Tiger is passionate about math. He participates in the Mathematical Olympiad Program, is a Gold Medalist of the USA Math Olympiad, and is a two-time winner of the Spirit of Ramanujan Fellowship. In his spare time, he also enjoys playing chess and board games, biking, playing with his dog Joy, and eating sushi.
