I am Queenie Dai, a freshman at Jericho High School and a flute major at Juilliard Pre-college. I embarked on my music journey when I was five. The very first instrument I played was a Chinese plucked instrument named “Pipa” which opened my world to music. I was fascinated with the traditional sound of this instrument and played it until I turned 11. After that, I played the piano for two years under the influence of my sister until I passed the highest level of NYSSMA. At the age of 10, I stepped into the world of flute. With a rich musical background, I was able to quickly adapt to playing the flute. The more I played the flute, the more I was in love with it. To advance my knowledge of flute, I spent more than one year practicing hard to get into the Juilliard Pre-college program. In the same year that I was accepted in to Juilliard, also winning the Young Musician Contest hosted by the New York Flute Club.
