Ricky Wang started playing the cello in 2019 at the age of 9. He has been taking lessons from Mr. Cheng-Yin Lu at the Royal Music Academy in Plano, Texas. At CM Rice Middle School, he is part of the Chamber Orchestra, the highest orchestra available. In 2022 and 2023, Ricky received the Exemplary Award at the Plano Solo and Ensemble Performing Arts Festival. In 2023, he was a finalist in the Texas Music Teacher’s Association (TMTA) Performance Contest, a highly regarded all-state music instrument competition in Texas for students. In addition, Ricky was one of the two students who received honorable mentions from TMTA, along with the top three winners of the orchestra instruments competition.
