
Seth Ifland began taking cello lessons in 2011 under Allison Warrian in Winnipeg. After moving to Seattle in 2012, he studied first with Barbara Balatero and then with Rajan Krishnaswami, his current teacher. He has attended Vivace! Chamber Players, ChamberFest at Idyllwild Arts Academy, and the Marrowstone Music Festival. Seth has performed in solo masterclasses for Richard Aaron, Darrett Adkins, Natasha Brofsky, and Clive Greensmith, as well as chamber group masterclasses for James Ehnes and Edward Aaron. Since 2019, Seth has been a member of the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra, and has won the position of principal cellist multiple times in both the Junior Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Symphony Orchestra. During his time in SYSO, he has performed alongside Seattle Symphony Principal cellist Efe Baltacigil and collaborated with the Pacific Northwest Ballet Professional Division. Seth has also pursued mentoring opportunities through SYSO. He worked as an intern at SYSO Summer Music and currently mentors students in the Prelude Symphony Orchestra. Aside from cello, he enjoys church, the outdoors, and spending time with family.
