Sylvia Li

Sylvia Li, currently seventeen, was born in Hong Kong and has immersed herself in musical competitions and performances over the years. Playing both the harp and the Gu Zheng, she began her musical journey with the latter at age 7, completing the Central Conservatory of Music diploma grade after seven years. Transitioning to the harp soon after, her solid foundation on the Gu Zheng facilitated rapid progress. Achieving an A grade in music in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exam, Sylvia’s musical pursuits extend beyond solo performances to include ensemble experiences, notably with the Zheng ensemble during her time in Hong Kong and as a member of the Zheng ensemble under The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts from 2019-2021. Since relocating to Vancouver in 2022, she has been under the tutelage of Dr. Joy Yeh, furthering her skills in the harp. Sylvia has showcased her talents in various orchestras and ensembles, including the Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, Ambleside Orchestra, and the wind ensemble at Eric Hamber Secondary School. Noteworthy achievements include winning competitions such as the Kiwanis Music Festival, where she secured first place in the grade 8 category. Sylvia finds immense joy in performing, infusing each piece with her emotions and technical prowess to captivate audiences. She believes in the transformative power of music, aspiring to pursue a career as a professional performer to continue touching hearts and souls through ensemble and orchestral activities.
