Tanya Ganesh, a 16-year-old oboist, started her musical journey with piano at the age of 7, exploring solo performance while playing for the school jazz band and choir, and picking up the viola. She soon took an interest in the unique timbre of the oboe, racking up perfect scores at the Northern Illinois Music Conference Solo and Ensemble Contest while being Principal at the Illinois Music Educators Academy (ILMEA) Junior Band and the Honors Performance Series Orchestra. As of last year, Tanya was Principal Oboist of the ILMEA All-District Senior Orchestra and selected to perform with the All-State Honors Orchestra. She has been Principal Oboist for the Midwest Young Artists Symphony Orchestra for 3 years now, performing complete works including Shostakovich – Symphony No. 5, Holst – The Planets, Berlioz – Symphony Fantastique, and Mahler – Symphony No. 1. She recently received an Honorable Mention for the Mozart Oboe Concerto in the Walgreens National Concerto Competition. Her education at the MRL Oboe Studio includes masterclasses from Eugene Izotov and Lisa Kozenko. Tanya has studied numerous oboe solo repertoire including Strauss Oboe Concerto, Pasculli Oboe Concerto, Saint Saens Oboe Sonata, Goossens Oboe Concerto, and Kalliwoda Morceau de Salon. She has performed at several distinguished venues such as Carnegie Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Pick-Staiger Hall, Ravinia Festival, Harris Theater, Chicago Symphony Center, and other renowned facilities. Working to unite the arts department at her high school, Lake Forest Academy, Tanya created a Music for the Minds club, where student-musicians perform at various retirement homes and children’s hospitals in the Chicago area. Apart from her musical inclination, Tanya is on the varsity ice hockey and tennis team, and Sports Director for her school newspaper.
