Timothy Berry

Timothy Berry is an Alabama native and began taking piano lessons with Susan Hoop in Madison at the age of nine. He is currently a sophomore at the University of Alabama where he studies under Dr. Kevin Chance. He has won awards in numerous competitions such as Alabama Music Teachers Association winner in Solo, Chamber, and Concerto divisions; Honorable Mention at Music Teacher’s National association state level, Scholarship winner for the Birmingham Music Club Guild; UAH Piano Competition 2nd place; Huntsville Music Study Club Scholarship Recipient; American Association of Christian Schools National Competition 1st place in Classical Duet, Sacred Duet, and 3rd place in Solo; and awards from the Alabama Federation of Music Clubs Scholarship Auditions, Alabama Christian Educators Association, and the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Auditions. In 2019, he was awarded the Clara Wells Fellowship for the American Matthay Association Festival. Most recently in fall of 2020, he won the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist division at the state level as well as the University of Alabama Concerto and Aria Competition. He has attended the New Orleans Piano Institute at Loyola University where he studied with Kevin Chance, Frank Heneghan, and Igor Resnianski; Samford University’s Piano and Chamber Music Institute where he studied with Ronald Shinn; and the University of Montevallo’s Young Musician’s Camp where he studied with Cindy St. Clair and Cynthia MacCrae. He has performed in master classes with Cindy St. Clair, Cynthia MacCrae, Ronald Shinn, Frank Heneghan, Nancy Weems, and Constance Carroll. He enjoys collaborating with others and has participated in the University of Alabama Percussion Ensemble, Huxford Symphony Orchestra, and chamber ensembles. In addition to music, he thoroughly enjoys his academic studies, and attending concerts and live theatre.
