Tyler Chew

I’m Tyler Chew, a 16-year-old pianist under the guidance of Annamarie McCarthy. I have been studying piano for about 10 years!

Captivated and inspired by my older sister’s piano performances at home, I began piano lessons during the first grade. Since then, my musical journey has been a steadfast pursuit. Playing and sharing music with others is not only incredibly rewarding but is also a way of spreading joy to others!

In addition to studying under the tutelage of Annamarie McCarthy, I am also a piano student at Ruth Asawa School of the Arts (RASOTA) under the mentorship of Franz Zhao, where I’ve participated in various ensemble groups such as chamber, piano duets and 8-hands, and accompanying opera vocalists in orchestral reductions. At RASOTA, I have also attended classes in film composition, electronic music production, world music percussion, aural training, and music theory.

Aspiring to continue expanding my horizons in my journey in music, I have begun participating in various competitions. I will soon be playing in the winner’s showcase of the 2023 Bay Area Piano Competition. These competitions represent not only an opportunity for personal growth but also a chance to connect with other musicians.
