Uma Das

Uma Das is a 16-year old sophomore at Bethesda-Chevy Chase in Bethesda, Maryland. She has been a piano student at the Levine School of Music since the age of 6, first with Dr. Karen Bartmen and currently with Dr. Martin Labazevitch. In 2024, Uma won the Cogen Concerto Competition (Senior Division) and was a finalist in the Marlin Engle Solo Competition (Senior Division) at the Levine School. This year, she won second prize for the state of Maryland in the OPUS Music Competition, and looks forward to competing in the national finals in March. Her piano duo, On the Other Hand, in which she plays with pianist Sam Brose, won the first prize in Washington DC Music Teachers Association Juried Recital (2023) and the Misbin Award in the 2024 Misbin Family Memorial Competition. In addition, she has been recognized as an piano accompanist, winning the Best Accompanist Award in the Music in the Parks festival (2023) and the Maestro Award at the 2024 Worldstrides Ensemble Competition in New York. Finally, Uma has played in several masterclasses, including most recently with Aristo Sham (2023) and Émile Naumoff (2024).
