Vivian Mcconkie Stewart

I started studying the violin at the age of 3 and am under the instruction of Eugene Watanabe. I am a member of the Gifted Music School Conservatory and have loved my experience through the school strengthening my musical education. Through my violin I have met wonderful people and gained my most meaningful friendships. Starting back in November of 2013, at age 7, I set a goal for myself to not miss a single day of practice for 10 years. This last November, I hit my 10 year goal of not missing a day of practice and completed my streak. For the last several years this has looked like 3-4 hours a day. But what I have learned from this experience is far greater than the number of hours, although many. Practicing has taught me what it means to be disciplined, dedicated, and committed. I have had many opportunities to travel around the world sharing my music on performing tours in China, Thailand, and Singapore. In my time away from practice, I builds callouses not on her fingertips, but on my palms with a chalk bag; hanging from boulders rock climbing.
