
In 2016, Yanhua Huang was admitted to Roberts Wesleyan University in the United States, where he studied under Jeffrey Gray, principal bass trombonist of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2020, he pursued a master’s degree in trombone performance at the Eastman School of Music, studying under the renowned trombonist and educator Larry Zalkind. He successfully obtained his master’s degree in 2022 and performer’s certificate in 2023. Currently, he is continuing his studies towards a doctoral degree in trombone performance at the Eastman School of Music and holds a position as a teaching assistant.
Yanhua won the concerto competition at Roberts Wesleyan university in 2018, collaborating with the university orchestra to perform the Grondahl Trombone Concerto. Additionally, he achieved third place in the Edward Group at the 2019 Asia Brass Music Festival Trombone Competition. As a member of the Outer Loop Trombone Quartet, which won first place in the trombone quartet competition at the 2021 American Trombone Workshop and was invited to perform in a featured recital. He has also been invited by the Beal Institute on multiple occasions to participate in various film scoring recording sessions. He is also a member of the Syracuse Orchestra since 2021.
Yanhua enriched his musical experience through participation in various masterclasses and individual sessions led by esteemed musicians such as Joseph Alessi, Christian Lindberg, Nitzan Haroz, Denson Paul Pollard, Haim Avitsur, Jeremy Wilson, and Brian Wendel, among others.
