Yerang Kim

Yerang Kim is a rising sophomore at The Overlake School in Redmond, Washington. She has played piano since the age of 5 and violin since the age of 8. She loves expressing herself through music. While she started to play the instruments through her love of music, after she moved to the US from Canada in sixth grade, she began entering competitions at her teacher’s recommendation. She won her first gold medal in the 2019 Bach Festival of The Seattle International Piano Festival. She won gold medals at many competitions since then such as the 2020 and 2021 RCMFS Piano Competition, the 2021 Virtuoso Artists Festival, the 2021 RCMFS Violin Competition, and the 2021 Classical Viennese Festival. She also won the second prize in the 2022 Helen Growe Snelling Memorial Scholarship Award Competition. In eighth grade, she took part in the Washington Music Educators Association All-State Junior Orchestra, furthering her violin experience from her school orchestra, where she plays as a first violin. After entering high school, she won many more awards such as a gold medal in the 2023 Bach Festival, a silver medal in the 2023 Classical Viennese Festival, 3rd Level in X Odin International Music Online Competition, and second prizes in three categories of the 2023 Charleston International Competition, two of which was piano, and one for violin. She also successfully completed the ABRSM 8 Piano with distinction and RCM Level 10.
She loves to play with her dog and travel with her family over vacations. She also loves hanging out with her friends and biking in her free time.
