Yihan Yao, studied bassoon performance under Wanting Jiang at Piano Academy at Gulangyu, Central Conservatory of Music in 2014, served as the Principal Bassoon of the academy’s Orchestra, and participated in various performances for three years at the school. From 2015, she began to studied with Prof. Lansong Li, a famous bassoon player and educator from the Central Conservatory of Music. She was admitted to the Beijing Opera Art’s College in 2017 and served as the Principal Bassoon of the College Orchestra. In September 2020, she was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music with the highest grade, and served as the principal of bassoon at school orchestra till now.
Notable prizes she has received include the Absolute First Prize in 2022 UK International Music Competition, The second prize in 2020 Bellagrande International Music Competition (USA) and Bronze Prize in the 1st Bassoon Grand Prix in Jinbao in 2019.
She performed in masterclasses for such artists as Christian Kunert (Hamburg University of Music and Drama), Marc Engelhardt (Stuttgart State Academy of Music and Drama), Alex Benoit (Principal Bassoon of the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra), and Michael Garza (Principal of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra), and has received unanimous praise.
