Yimeng Xu

Yimeng Xu is a student of Dr. Washington Garcia majoring in piano performance at the University of Nebraska Omaha School of Music, where she has been featured as a soloist in serious venues.

Yimeng has performed in master classes of renowned pianists and teachers including Jonathan Korth, Alfredo Aguilar, Richard Kogan, Anton Nel, Richard Kogan, Awadagin Pratt, Carolyn True, and Alexander Kobrin, Ann Schein, Andrew Cooperstock, Yi-Yang Chen, Rita Sloan, Martin Katz, Jonathan Feldman, Kathleen Kelly, Colette Valentine, Elena Abend, Christopher Turbessi, Ana Maria Otamend.

Yimeng was a multiple award winner in high school. Past accomplishments include first prizes at the International Irmler Piano Competition(Liaoning)under the Professional Group B as well as at the 7th Steinway Junior Piano Competition (Shenyang). Beside these, she was also chosen to receive the a Chinese scholarship worth 1200 RMB in recognition of her academic work and outstanding performance. In College, she was runner-up in the UNO Concerto Competition 2018-2019, was selected the Outstanding Student in Piano by the School of Music Faculty Tutti 2019, obtained the Nebraska Mu-sic Teacher Association Thomas Ediger Collegiate Scholarship in 2019, received honora-ble mention in the 2020 Nberaska MTNA Young Artist performance competition, one of the winners of Michael J.Ruetz scholarship for Music Excellence, and won first prize at the 2020 UNO Piano day- College Division.

As a student collaborative pianist, Yimeng is a student of Ms. Haneline, the coordinator of the Collaborative Piano Area. She has collaborated with violinists, cellist, flutist, piano trio, piano duet, vocalists, UNO Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra, Mastersinger of Omaha, UNO university choir, Omaha Symphonic Chorus, and UNO Symphony Wind Ensemble. She has performed at the Nebraska Rising Stars hold by Omaha Conservatory of Music and at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University with her piano duet partner Marissa Mathia. She is also in the Mentoring Program with Omaha Music School, Crash Bang Boom, and she is the Vice President of UNO Campus Music Teacher Association.
