The Lark Trio was first founded in the winter of 2023 at Groton School, a boarding school in Groton Massachusetts, after its members Alexander Newman, Olivia Ding, and Sarah Ku initially connected over a shared love of “The Lark Ascending” by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Since then, the piano trio has gone on to perform works by Piazzolla, Mozart, Bruch, and Debussy, attempting to highlight both repertoire originally composed for the instrumentation—Clarinet, Viola, and Piano—as well as piano trios composed for (or traditionally played by) Violin, Cello, and Piano such as the Debussy Piano Trio in G major and the Cuatro Oraciones Porteñas by Piazzolla.
