Alexander Vance and Barbara Durost

Alexander Vance and Barbara Durost

I began my piano journey with Dr. Barbara Durost in 2018 although I have been taking lessons since 2015. Classical music pieces are my favorite because of their challenging nature, but I do enjoy playing jazz, pop, and rock. In fact, I am finishing my Eagle Rank for BSA Scouts now, and my Eagle Project Fundraiser is a piano concert called, “The Battle of the Genres,” where I play all sorts of genres and then create medleys with them. The proceeds will fund a project in the Keyboard Lab at the Claremont Community School of Music so that the electronic keyboards will have a safe storage facility. Any additional funds from my fundraiser will go towards replacing/retuning the old pianos. Dr. Barbara Durost received her doctorate from Claremont Graduate School and studied with Robert Shaw, Donald Neuen, Michael Lamkin, Bela Bozormenyi-Nagy, Ney Salgado, and Maureen Egan. She was awarded the J. Merrill Knapp Fellowship from the American Handel Society in 1996, and in 1997 received a nomination into the International Who’s Who in Music.
