Somin Park is an enthusiastic flutist who’s been playing her instrument for 5 years. Over the years, she played many instruments, such as piano and trombone, but enjoyed playing the flute the most out of all of them. After she also started playing the piccolo as well, she became deeply immersed in all the instruments in the flute family.
She currently attends Henry M. Gunn High school, and has been playing with her teacher, Irwin Hui. After many years of playing flute pieces, she found that she enjoyed playing fast paced music with long articulatory runs, which can be seen in her performance of Bach’s sonata in E minor, 2nd movement’s fast 16th notes runs. She has been in masterclasses with the flutist, Martha Long, and has been selected for the county’s honor band in 2 different states.
She also has been a part of the GSYO orchestra, and most recently in their Wind ensemble, 2nd flute principal. She hopes to keep gaining experience as well as build connections through international music programs, such as the Charleston International Music Competition.
Watch Somin Park perform Flute sonata in E minor Allegro by JS Bach on the flute for the 2026 Autumn Music Competition as part of the Charleston International Music Competition.
