About Fudeko Takahashi

Fudeko Takahashi / Fudeko Takahashi studied the violin from a young age in Japan and received many national prizes and awards including 1st Prize in the All-Japan Music Competition, Middle School Division. At age 17, she was the youngest finalist in the All-Japan Music Competition and was awarded a Special Prize in the International Representative Competition and was sent to represent Japan at the Nicolo Paganini International Competition in Italy where she became the first Japanese citizen to receive a prize from an international music competition without studying outside of Japan. During her college years at the world famous Toho School of Music in Tokyo, she was chosen to play for many of the top violinists and pedagogues of all time including Gabriel Boilon (Paris Conservatory), LeonidKogan (MoscowConservatory), Michelle Auclair (Paris Conservatory), and Yehudi Menuhin (Menuhin School). Upon graduating from Toho, she was awarded the Seiji Ozawa Fellowship to Tanglewood where she served as Concertmistress of the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra under both Ozawa and Leonard Bernstein and was awarded the Pierre Mayer Award as the most outstanding violinist.

While studying at NEC and Juilliard with Dorothy DeLay, the storied teacher of Itzhak Perlman and many other famous violinists, Ms. Takahashi also taught at the Aspen Music School for four years. She then became an Artist-In-Residence at the Gardner Museum and began teaching at the NEC Preparatory School.

Her students have received numerous awards from competitions including BSO/Fidelity, NEC, BYSO, NYO, NYO2, BUTI, American Protégé, HPS at Carnegie Hall, ASTA, MTNA, Bay State, Grand Prize Virtuoso, Yough Arts and many more. The National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts awarded Ms. Takahashi the special Teacher Recognition Award.
