About Jeffrey Solow

Cellist Jeffrey Solow’s compelling playing has enthralled audiences throughout North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia as soloist, chamber musician and teacher. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he earned a degree in Philosophy magna cum laude from UCLA while studying with and assisting the legendary Gregor Piatigorsky at USC. He has performed more than 40 different solo works with orchestras worldwide and he has been guest artist at many national and international festivals. Among his numerous recordings for Columbia, New World, ABC, Centaur, Delos, Capstone, Kleos, Laurel, Everest, and Telefunken, two received Grammy Award nominations. In the summer of 2024 he performed his 14th cycle of Bach’s Suites for Solo Cello at NYC’s renowned floating venue, Bargemusic.

Prof. Solow’s editions are published by Breitkopf, International Music Company, Peters, Presser, Latham, Ovation, and Henle Urtext and Strad magazine (London), the British Cello Society Newsletter, Strings magazine, and American String Teacher have published his articles. He is past president of the Violoncello Society of NY and of the American String Teachers Association. Recognized worldwide as an outstanding teacher, Prof. Solow has presented master classes throughout the United States as well as in Switzerland, Austria, Korea, Guatemala, Norway, France, Argentina, Canada, at the Beijing, Shanghai, Sichuan, Nanning and WuHan conservatories in China, and at the Chiang Kai-Shek National Library in Taiwan. Jeffrey Solow has been professor of cello at Temple University since 1989 and received the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2020.
