Andrew Hwang, 16, is a junior at Gunn High School in Palo Alto, where he is the principal violist of the chamber orchestra. He is also a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and of the Young Chamber Musicians. He currently studies with Dimitri Murrath and Adam Smyla, and his previous teachers are Sujung Seok and Minji Kim. Andrew is the Grand prize winner of the 2021 Silicon Valley Music Competition, the 1st prize winner of the 2021 Korean American Music Supporters’ Association Competition, the 2nd prize winner of the 2021 United States International Music Competition, and the Best Bach Award and the 2nd prize winner of the 2022 NorCal Viola Society Young Violist Competition. He has participated in the 2021-2023 Junior Bach Festival, 2021 Heifetz PEG, 2022 Music@Menlo, and in the 2023 Bowdoin Music Festival.
