Ge Haixiang, a passionate performer both in orchestral and chamber music, graduated with the first prize in viola from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2020 and from the Tianjin Juilliard School in 2022. He is currently pursuing further studies at Ball State University under the tutelage of esteemed professors Zoran Jakovcic, Sheila Browne, and Li Honggang (the violist of the renowned Shanghai Quartet).
In 2019, Ge distinguished himself as the Principal Violist of the Asian Youth Orchestra. His exceptional talent earned him the position of principal violist with the Tianjin Juilliard Orchestra and the Tianjin Juilliard String Orchestra. In his capacity as principal of the Tianjin Juilliard Orchestra, Ge showcased his prowess as a soloist in Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite. Ge also collaborated with Scott Bell during the Tianjin Chamber Music Festival.
As a soloist, Ge triumphed in the 2023 Ball State Concerto Competition, resulting in a performance of Bartók’s Viola Concerto with the Ball State Symphony Orchestra in the spring season. He was also invited to participate in the 2022 Festival Connect at the Tianjin Juilliard School. Throughout his academic journey, Ge garnered numerous accolades at international string camp competitions.
During his undergraduate tenure, Ge served as associate principal violist for the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Orchestra, participating in prominent concerts across China, such as Shanghai Spring and Chunhua Qiushi. Additionally, he held the position of principal violist with the Shanghai Kalliope Chamber Orchestra. Between 2017 and 2019, Ge enjoyed multiple engagements as a guest violist with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra. In 2018, he attended the Viva la Viola festival, and in 2019, he participated in the Youth Music Culture Guangdong event, where he was honored with the title of Excellent Orchestra Member.
