Josephine Grace Van Hoey

Josephine Van Hoey has studied violin since age 5, currently with Sarah Foard. Josephine has held multiple titled positions with the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras in progressive ensembles and this season is assistant principal, violin II, with the Philharmonic (AYP). Throughout the DC region, Josephine performs in chamber ensembles with AYPO, her own Two Cities Trio, and the Wakefield Quartet; she also serves as concertmaster of the Wakefield HS Chamber Orchestra. In addition to playing violin, Josephine supports the Wakefield HS Jazz Band with performance on upright bass and coaches middle school musicians in a local Music Buddies program. She has received gold and platinum medals for her performances with the Seattle International 2021 Bach Festival for Keyboard and Strings and 2023 Quebec International Music Competition and placed 2nd in the 2023 OPUS Competition for senior-level musicians in Virginia. Outside of music, Josephine enjoys knitting, biking, and lifeguarding.
