Samuel Alexander Obie

A Pearson Music Organ rental the summer of 1967, started my musical journey w/my late Mom, Joyce M. Obie. She pulled together all I’d gleaned to that point, solidifying my knowledge, sharing my future and making my life right. Fours years later, as she said, I was hired by Shirley Caesar as organist in April of 1971. Other than the two years I attended Durham Technical Community College receiving an A.A.S. Degree in Accounting, I was in her employment until January 1980. My “talented family” organized and recorded originals my yours truly in 1983, a 45 rpm “I Never Shall Forget”. I moved to Charlotte, NC on the word of John Kee. It was just what I needed, as my music and musicianship. Shirley Caesar and Edwin Hawkins recorded my music in 1993 and 1994. “Hillsborough NC USA” was written as a nostalgic looking back in 2005. A move to Greensboro, NC in 2020, allowed me to meet my wife and move back to Durham last year. I’m presently working at Mt Sinai Baptist Church and GrooveStreet Band. I’ve 106 songs in my SESAC catalog. I’m loving a heartfelt life.
