Wendelin Kwek

Started learning piano at the age of four, Wendelin Kwek has shown her talent at a very young age and achieved various recognitions in music. Wendelin is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance in Boston University with a scholarship under the tutelage of Boaz Sharon, while holding a position as his assistant. Besides studying, she is also an instructor for private piano lessons and group classes in the university. Wendelin was a full time piano teacher in Singapore for 6 years before moving to Boston to pursue her Doctoral degree. As a successful teacher, many of her students obtain achievements in ABRSM exams and competitions. As of now, she has 11 years of teaching experience in total.

Wendelin earned her Master and Bachelor degrees in Piano Performance from Indiana University Bloomington – Jacobs School of Music under the tutelage of world-class pianists Edward Auer, Émile Naoumoff, and Reiko-Shigeoka Neriki. Due to her musical ability and sensitivity, she was exempted from numerous subjects by the university, hence she completed her undergraduate’s requirements in three years with Highest Distinction (Summa Cum Laude). During her study for Master degree, she was appointed to be a piano instructor in the prestigious Indiana University Pre-College Music Program.

Her many music recognitions and prestigious awards include Founders Scholar from Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-13 for her achievement in obtaining GPA 4.0 throughout her undergraduate study, Distinction for all grades in Piano ABRSM Examination, and Hedy King Robinson Prizes for her excellence in ABRSM Music Theory Grade 7 & 8, to name a few.

Wendelin Kwek actively performs in solo and chamber music concerts in Singapore, US, and Indonesia. Besides solo piano concerts, she also performed as the soloist with Indiana University ad hoc orchestra playing Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 2. In addition, she was appointed as the rehearsal pianist for several opera productions in Singapore and US, such as Mozart’s opera “Magic Flute” and Lehár’s opera “Merry Widow.”
